Tunesday: MAN OF STEEL vs. SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE
Posted on 10:22 by gllapsi
I'm fairly convinced that composer Hans Zimmer was one of the few people involved in Man of Steel who properly understood the lineage of the character and his actual role in American culture. While it would seem that everyone above the line wanted to desperately subvert the iconic character, Zimmer gave moviegoers an audible experience that seemed to respectfully acknowledge the quiet strength of Superman.
In the following video, David Chen of SlashFilm.com compares Zimmer's score to John Williams' highly-regarded fanfare from 1978's Superman: The Movie. Understandably, the purpose isn't meant to pit the two composers against each other in a fanboy-styled battle for supremacy, but to better understand the method of two extremely talented individuals.
