Darth Vader Voiced by Arnold Schwarzenegger #StarWars #DarthVader #NSFW

Some warrior poet...wait, no, some genius mad man decided to overdub Arnold Schwarzenegger's best lines over Darth Vader's best lines.

And from that moment on we were all happy.

Watch the video below. It is a knee slapping good time.

Parenting Tips From Will Smith & Martin Lawrence [NSFW Language]

In Bad Boys II (2003) Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are the good guys, doing what good guys do: keeping drugs off the streets. They've been friends for years. They have good hearts. And even though everything doesn't always go as planned, they really do their best to try to help and protect the innocent.

Including Lawrence's teenage daughter.

Here's a clip that makes me laugh every single time I take in a viewing.

I don't have a daughter, but if I did, am certain that when she reached the age of dating, I would learn the lines from this scene by heart.

Its Friday. Just a few more hours 'til the weekend officially starts. Have a laugh to get through the day.

[Warning: Images are SFW, but language is VERY NSFW.)

Now that's good parenting. Parenting Action A Go Go style!

Whoa. Dude. That was awesome.

This site is called Action A Go Go. Our tagline is: The Internet's biggest supplier of explosions. However, from my perspective, the explosion quotient has been a bit low as of late.

I'd intended to do an in-depth search online for videos of explosions from several genres: action, sci-fi, horror, fantasy. Maybe even some real world explosions from demolitions. Then thought maybe a psychological analysis of why we like explosions should happen.

But then found a video. One video. Made me realize that all of that wouldn't be necessary.

Sometimes you just have to click "play," sit back and about every ten or fifteen seconds, look at the moving images on the screen and say:

"Whoa. Dude. That was awesome."

This video is entitled A Tribute to Movie Explosions. A stronger distillation of purer Action A Go Go approved pyrotechnics would be hard to find.

Whoa. Dude. That was awesome.

Vintage Vixen Thursday - Bond Girls!

Being a science fiction columnist, I generally prefer green Orion dancing girls or the kind of woman that can go toe-to-toe with a xenomorph while trying to save planet Earth. But the Captain of the USS Action A Go Go asked that I take on the task of a new Thursday series entitled Vintage Vixens.

(Ok. He didn't actually use the word "vintage," but I like alliteration. If we ever go with "modern" vixens on a Thursday, I'll be sure to point it out.)

Picking a focus for the very first Vintage Vixens was not difficult. Apparently, you humans have been favoring what are called "Bond Girls" for over fifty years. Please find below images culled from almost every Bond film ever made, starting with 1962's Dr. No through 2012's Skyfall.

And even though they're not from planets such as Kronos or Andoria, they certainly sound like they are, having names like Xenia Onatopp, Solange and Pussy Galore.

Enjoy!

Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder, Dr. No, 1962.

Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana Romanova, From Russia With Love, 1963.

Claudine Auger as Domino Derval, Thunderball, 1965.

Lana Wood as Plenty O'Toole, Diamonds Are Forever, 1971.

Barbara Bach as Anya Amasova, The Spy Who Loved Me, 1977.

Loise Chiles as Holly Goodhead (yes...that's the character's name), Moonraker, 1979.

Lynn Holly-Johnson, as Bibi, For Your Eyes Only, 1981.

Maude Adams, as Octopussy, Octopussy, 1983.

Barbara Carrera as Fatima Blush, Never Say Never Again, 1983.

Tanya Roberts as Stacey Sutton, A View to a Kill, 1985.

Talisa Soto as Lupe Lamora, Licence to Kill, 1989.

Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp (again...yes...the character's real name), GoldenEye, 1995.

Teri Hatcher as Paris Carver, Tomorrow Never Dies, 1997.

Denise Richards as Christmas Jones and Sophie Marceau as Elektra King, The World Is Not Enough, 1999.

Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost, Die Another Day, 2002.

Caterina Murino as Solange, Casino Royale, 2006.

Olga Kurylenko as Camille, Quantum of Solace, 2008.

Berenice Marlohe as Severine, Skyfall, 2012.

Tricia Helfer as Caprica Six, The Cylon Who Loved Me, release date unknown.

Jolene Blalock as T'Pol, From Vulcan With Love, 2156.

Okay, okay. Those last two weren't technically Bond girls, but hey...I'm the sci-fi guy. I'm allowed to bend the rules of reality a little bit. And, um...I...I...I did it for SCIENCE! Yes. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

If you've any ideas for future Vintage Vixen posts, please let me know. Thanks, and see you next week!

Trek for Rookies - The Next Generation

Title

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Original Air Dates

September 28^th, 1987 – May 23^rd, 1994.

Main Story Line

Airing on television 21 years after the original series and picking up 70 years later in the Trek universe timeline, Captain Picard and his crew continue with Starfleet's exploration of space. However, it changes from a five year to an ongoing mission, and "where no man has gone before" is changed to "no one."

This is the first and only Trek to be nominated for an Emmy in the Best Dramatic Series category and it has made several lists as one of the best television shows of all time.

Sir Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The greatest actor portraying the greatest character EVER in the history of everything in the entire known universe. Ever. (I'm not biased or anything.)

The Captain

Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart)

Calm. Focused. Originally from France, but speaks with a British accent. Can quote Shakespeare extensively. Although a man of action when duty calls, is by nature an introvert that would prefer to spend off-time with reading books or working long, quiet hours on an archeological site. Whatever his environment, he always has a purpose. Can handle himself in a fight, but has the strength of presence and wisdom of experience to avert the use of violence. Impatient, and even seemingly awkward, with children. Favorite beverage is Earl Grey tea, hot.

From L to R: Wesley, Riker, Data, Troi, Picard, Worf, Crusher, La Forge.

Primary Characters

Commander William Riker(Jonathan Frakes) Human. An extrovert. Ladies' man. High levels of loyalty to both his Captain and his crew.

Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) Human. Ever optimistic. Blind since birth, utilizes a special visor that allows him to see using the electromagnetic spectrum.

Chief of Security Worf(Michael Dorn). Klingon, but raised by humans. Short of temper. Constantly at odds with attempting to balance Klingon tradition and instinct with human diplomacy and patience.

Doctor Beverly Crusher(Gates McFadden). Human. Superior scientific and medical skills. Very intent on ethics. The only female doctor within the five series.

Ship’s Counselor Deanna Troi(Marina Sirtis) Half-human, half-Betazoid. Empath. Has the ability to detect emotional states in others, which proves useful when the Captain is trying to determine the intent of newly met species.

Lieutenant Commander Data(Brent Spiner) Android. The only functioning android of his kind in existence. Intent on becoming "more human." Because of this search for meaning, provides some of the most poignant, as well as humorous, moments of the series.

Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) Son of Dr. Crusher. At the time of its airing, it must have been an amazing experience for teens across the globe to have a character their age as a regular on a Star Trek series.

Alphas

John De Lancie as Q.

 - An all knowing, all powerful character known as "Q." The series begins and ends with him, with quite a few visits throughout all seven seasons. Portrayed by actor John De Lancie, you know it will be one of the better episodes if he shows up.

Resistance is futile...to Borg awesomeness!

 - The Borg. Within all five Trek series, the Borg are rivaled only by the Klingons as the coolest antagonists. And that is very much up for debate. Their story arc within the series is one of the finest in all the realms of sci-fi.

"Love is always smelled." - Ancient Klingon proverb.

 - The Klingon story arcs are most excellent.

 - For fans of the Battlestar Galactica series produced by Ronald D. Moore, it's interesting to note that he was also a co-producer on TNG. Towards the end of the series, one can even detect traces of editing, camerawork and other nuances that one would eventually find on BSG.

 - Remember these words: "There...are...FOUR...LIGHTS!"

The greatest picture ever taken of the greatest actor ever in the entire known history of the universe and everything in it. Ever.

 - Sir Patrick Stewart as Picard. It's reported that after moving to California to star on TNG, he didn't unpack his bags for six weeks, for he thought the show wouldn't last. But I dare say, he is most likely the primary reason it did remain on air. Any lesser actor (which would be most compared to him) may easily have led to the demise of the show.

Here's a clip displaying his mastery of the craft of acting, also giving example to what I believe is the very essence of the entire Trek realm created by Gene Roddenberry.

Deltas

 - By modern standards, the editing and pacing within the series may at times seem a bit slow.

 - Also, since the special effects were in a time where CGI was nowhere near the levels of today, they're a bit lacking. However, I have not yet watched any of the remasters on Bluray, so that may help.

 - Depending on who you are, this may be an Alpha or a Delta, but unlike all the other series, the sexiness quotient for TNG is rather low.

 - Maybe simply being due to the time within which it was made, the aesthetics of the costuming and set are a bit soft. Pastels? Really?

Who should watch Star Trek: The Next Generation?
As stated in previous posts, if someone has the time and inclination to watch all five series, I'd recommend the chronological order in which they were filmed, or that of the Trek universe itself.

However, if a phase pistol were put to my head, or if I was threatened with life imprisonment on Rura Penthe, and I had to choose only one series to recommend, it would be Star Trek: The Next Generation. It ran a full seven seasons and maintained high levels of excellence in its writing, acting and directing. It is also the most accessible of the Treks, with potential to appeal to people from all walks of life. Also, Gene Roddenberry himself worked on it, allowing him to try things he could only dream of doing with TOS.

If you only plan on watching one Trek ever (although I don't understand how that could be possible), then my vote would be for TNG.

On the launch platform for next week? Star Trek: The Original Series.

Wallpaper Wednesday: The Art of Juan Jose Ryp #Robocop #NancyInHell #Comics

Since it's Wednesday, I figured that today's wallpapers should spotlight a comic artist for a change.

Primarily known for his work with Avatar Press, Artist Juan Jose Ryp is a master of paneled, page-turning, chaos. He excels at intense action, filling the page with as much manic violence as possible. Fans of Geoff Darrow (Big Guy and Rusty) should pay particular attention.

You can see his stuff in action inside Black Summer and Nancy in Hell. You can  also check out more of his Darrow-esque attention to detail at http://juanjoseryp.blogspot.com/.

Star Trek Into Darkness - Haters are...illogical!

Star Trek Into Darkness is on the store shelves today. Since its release this past summer, have witnessed quite a few haters doing their hating online. But am going to list six reasons why no one should listen to them.

A little background first.

I was not raised as a Trekkie. And when Abrams' reboot came out in 2009, I didn't see it in the theater, for the commercials made it look like Beverly Hills 90210 in Space. However, I eventually watched it on Bluray and was impressed. That lead to my purchase of the original series and fascination quickly set in. Because of life circumstances at the time, I was able to watch all six Trek series (including the animated), in the order that they were filmed, within only a six month period. That's around 3 or 4 episodes of Trek per day.

Yes. Maybe fascination is too gentle a word. Obsession is more appropriate.

Therefore, no, I haven't been a Trekkie for decades. I can't name individual episodes by their original titles. I haven't been to any Trek conventions. I don't own a Starfleet uniform. But I understand the essence of what Gene Roddenberry was trying to create. I see the brilliance mixed in with the cheese. And yes, I have studied the Klingon language. Am far from fluent, but am competent with swearing, which ultimately, is all one really needs to know of the language from the planet Kronos.

All that being said, here are six reasons why you should ignore the haters and pick up a copy of Star Trek Into Darkness.

Build on the past without clinging to it.

1. Honors Trek canon, yet brings new life. Imagine you're J.J. Abrams. You have to make a film based on a franchise that's been around 47 years, has over six hundred episodes and 12 feature films. What do you do? Start completely from scratch? Or follow canon? From my perspective, by utilizing an alternate timeline, he was able to do both.

The two main criticisms I've heard regarding STID are that it either takes too much from Wrath of Khan, or that it is not enough like it. But such comparisons are futile. Gene Roddenberry created Trek so that people would let go of rigid, time-worn, dogmatic thinking. Not live by it.

And to help put things into perspective, here's a brilliant article that displays what a review of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan would have looked like if the internet existed in the year 1982. Sound familiar?

2. Pacing/Editing. It is the year 2013. People's minds are now used to processing more information at a quicker pace. Yes. I love Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and the earlier films. But when looked at objectively, it can be stated that by modern standards...they...are...slow.

3. Special effects/CGI. They are flawless within STID. From the inside of the volcano, to the battle with Klingons, to the Enterprise rising through the clouds, there is no other Trek film or tv show that offers the same level of special effects mastery.

4. Sexiness.Trek is sexy. It is supposed to be sexy. In TOS, Shatner had his shirt off half the time and was constantly having romantic liaisons with beautiful alien women. DS9 had it's Dabo girls, VOY had 7 of 9 and ENT had T'Pol. It was only TNG that seemed to be lacking that erotic edge, but it did come out at a time when irrational levels of political correctness were taking hold in Western culture.

This scene? I and millions of others were okay with it. It's not the 15th century anymore and Puritanical standards are no longer needed.

Many seemed to have a problem with the scene involving the character Carol Marcus appearing for less than one second in her underwear. Many referred to it as "gratuitous." And...um...so? The human form is to be appreciated. Wasn't hearing any complaints at all about Chris Pine being in his underwear or running around in a skin-tight swim suit.

5. Musical score. Composed by Michael Giacchino, it is powerful, intricate and haunting. I still get shivers of bliss hearing the opening theme. It is the "off screen character" that adds whole new dimensions to the film. Here's a listen. Turn it up!

6. Brilliant casting. Pine, Quinto, Cumberbatch, Saldana, Eve, Urban, Pegg, Yelchin, Cho? All master craftsmen at what they do. I can't think of any other film made within the past decade that had so much talent on set.

100%, pure, industrial strength talent.

If you go by what you see online, many might have you believe that STID is an abomination. But that is a small, vocal minority that is to be ignored. Here are some numbers to consider: The film gets eight out of ten stars on IMDB and a 91% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It made over $70 million its opening weekend, and to date, in theaters, made almost $229 million.

In another decade or so, when a whole new generation discovers Trek, Abrams will not be mocked. He will be applauded.
