More so than normal, this past summer film season has completely and totally burnt me out on massive Hollywood blockbusters (until next year). However, I am an action junkie, and just like any fan of genre films I need my fix year-round. What is a violence fetishist to do? Turns out that the answer was there all along in the form of indie films, DTV, and grindhouse. Of course I've known this all along, but after 3 months of IMAX-converted "shake shake boom boom" it's nice to know that you don't have to totally resign to months of Oscar bait.

First up is the The Dirties, a crime-drama about the most taboo of contemporary topics: School shootings. It's brought to you (but not written or directed) by Kevin Smith, so expect plenty of cutting humor and four-letter words. If the trailer is any indication, you might actually come out of it a little shaken.
