GREAT MOMENTS IN ACTION HISTORY: The Opening Scene From THE KILLER
Posted on 07:00 by gllapsi
THE KILLER (1988)
Directed by John Woo
Starring Chow Yun-Fat, Danny Lee, Sally Yeh
I throw around the word "influential" a lot. That's because, for me, the true measure of a movie isn't just how good it is, but how many people were influenced by it after it was made. So, without a doubt, I can say that THE KILLER is one of the most influential movies ever made.
It took gunplay to the next level. It took editing to the next level. Hell, it took everything it could get it's hands on to the next level. And for the next decade it made two fisted gunplay and intense near gymnastic levels of movement commonplace in movies, to the point where the phrase "John Woo Style" was added to the movie geeks lexicon. Seriously, it influenced everything from THE PROFESSIONAL (1994) to THE MATRIX (1999).
What follows is the opening scene to this seminal action movie. Sit back and enjoy. Action doesn't get much better than this.
