Ma'am /mam/ noun
- term of respectful or polite address used for a woman.
- term of address for a ranking female officer.
- term utilized for a person of the female gender that just saved your sorry butt from a horde of genetically mutated Nazi undead super soldiers.
In the interstellar timeline of the Hollywood universe, the average starlet's career can usually be measured in nanoseconds. However, after having been in film for almost twenty years, Natalie Portman's trajectory only continues to climb higher and higher.
She's a master at her craft and is able to utilize subtlety with such precision that she can dominate a scene with a simple quick flutter of her eyelashes. And fortunately for us here at Action A Go Go, she picks the occasional project that involves many things blowing up, bad guys getting what they deserve and copious amounts of CGI visual bliss.
Her career essentially started at the age of 13 with the film Léon: The Professional (1994), which is conceivably one of the finest action films ever made. The film also includes one of Gary Oldman's most brilliant performances as a sociopathic DEA official. The movie is a must see, for it is one of those rare occurrences where action and substance are blended perfectly.
Her career includes a wide array of characters, from Padme Amidala in the Star Wars prequels to Evey in V for Vendetta (2005) to Jane Foster in Thor (2011). And although diminutive in physical stature (she's only 5' 3"), with a smile brimming with innocence, she has clearly established over and over that she has an internal strength which she can emanate with ease.
A woman to which one would never utter the words "Sure babe." A proper response would always, always be:
Yes Ma'am!
