A Break From Reality: The Digital Art of Jenni Sjӧberg

Aside from being a sci-fi columnist, I also fall into the category of "news junkie." I'm a firm believer in the Jeffersonian maxim that a good citizen in a Democracy is a well informed one. On a daily basis, I check several news sites to stay on top of things. The best probably being Fark.com since it brings almost every story with a laugh.
At any given moment, I can tell you the state of the U.S. government, what's happening in the Middle East, what social unrest may be happening in Myanmar and how the stock market is doing.
However, as of late, the world does seem to be in the hands of idiots.
Hell. More than "as of late."
"Most of the time" would be more appropriate.
Which is why aside from news sites in my favorites, I have several other pages saved. The two most viewed being Tumblr (the link goes to my page) and deviantART.com.
We live in an era where people halfway across the globe from each other can share skillfully crafted images of beauty. Rather than being intent on greed, power and ignorance, there are people in the world intent on creation, aesthetic purity and fun.
These people show me that there's always the possibility that humankind will make it to the founding of a Federation of Planets without first having World War III.
They're the ones that know that post-apocalyptic landscapes are best seen in art, not reality.
So, here are some of the exquisite digital workings of Jenni Sjӧberg.
Take a break from the insanity in the world. Refresh and relax your neural pathways. And when you're done checking out what's below, click on the link in her name above to view more of her amazing efforts.
Stephen Sumner is the science fiction columnist for Action A Go Go. His favorite sci-fi series include Firefly, Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek. He can be followed on Twitter at https://twitter.com/VierLights or on the Tumblr machine at http://vierlights.tumblr.com/.
